Thanks for all the donations!
The 'just giving' is busy and cheques are arriving too.
Every bit of help is brilliant, think of a reason NOT to swim the channel and make a donation!
Seaweed, swimming in the dark, deep water, jellyfish... these are just a few reasons why Alice, Sarah, Rachel, Lindsay, Amy and Catherine BRAVED THE WAVES and you DIDN'T!
Here’s the Team who Braved The Waves and swam the

House of Commons and No. 10 Visit, 27 July 2010

Team Twenty Ten were guests of Jonathan Lord MP and were treated to a guided tour of the House of Commons including a visit to the Terrace, filled with people relaxing in the evening sunshine. Needless to say, the Team soon collected guesses for ‘How Long Will It Take’ and had a photo taken with the armed security guards on duty there. During the tour, Jonathan described life as a new MP and asked the Team all about the development of the squad. He was suitably impressed by the range of environments that the Team have trained in over the last 18 months.
After the tour finished the Team headed up to Downing Street- more armed security guards were soon persuaded that taking photographs on the steps of Number 10 was quite in order and we were cheerfully sent through the security check to assemble in front of the shiny black door of David Cameron’s residence. Sam even remembered the Banner!
Preparations for the swim- training in Dover

JELLY fish, seaweed and flotsam are just some of the hazards facing Surrey West’s Centenary Channel Swim team this summer as they swim just under 21 miles from Shakespeare Beach, between Folkestone and Dover, to Cap Gris Nez, a headland between Calais and Boulogne.
Add to those difficulties the problem of swimming across one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes, with some 500 vessel movements daily, and you get a glimpse of the enormity of the challenge being undertaken by 15 Surrey West guiders and young leaders.
With months of hard work and training, not to mention fund-raising, behind them, the women aged 16 to 53, are now in the final stages of preparation, undertaking cold water lake and sea swims.
The group will also be travelling to Iceland for some intensive last-minute swims in the month before the event.
The Channel swim relay will eventually be undertaken by just six members of the squad – named Team Twenty Ten. The actual team will be announced just prior to the swim date in July.
As well as training, Team Twenty Ten is also trying to raise £10,000 to fund the adventure.
A concert at Surbiton High School which raised just under £300 and the group is also hoping that pool Channel swims across the county will help out with their fundraising.
Training in Iceland June 2010

Invited to hone their outdoor swimming skills by the Icelandic Sea Swimming Club, Team Twenty Ten arrived back at Heathrow on Monday 28th June, after a successful training weekend in Reykjavik.
The team of 14 conquered water temperatures of barely 11 degrees, for their two mile sea swim. They were accompanied by swim club president Benedikt Hjartarson – the only person in Iceland to have completed a Channel swim – and vice-president Arni Por Arnason. The swim, which took place in rainy and cold conditions, started at 6am, with swimmers taking over an hour to complete the session. After warming up in an outdoor thermal bath, Benedikt spoke to the women about Channel swimming.
Isobel Parr said: "Benedikt told us to make a list of the things which frightened us about sea swimming, so we could devise a strategy for dealing with them, whether it be jelly fish, sharks or the cold. It was excellent advice.” Catherine Cook, 17, said: "Although it was cold I really enjoyed the swim, particularly the occasional warm patches of water. Not many people can say they have been swimming in the sea in Iceland. It was a once in a lifetime experience.”
The team also completed a midnight training session in the national pool, which was kept open late in the evening to allow them to train.
During their visit they enjoyed a tour of Iceland, including visits to the King’s geyser and the Blue Lagoon hot springs.
Meeting the Icelandic Ambassador in London
On Wednesday June 2nd, Team Twenty Ten made the most of their day following their meeting with the Ambassador of the Icelandic Embassy by a visit to Girlguiding HQ. Here they are! They have persuaded the CHQ shop to stock the Channel Challenge and Badge which is great news. A copy of the challenge can be downloaded here
